The
Pennsylvania Auctioneers Association (PAA) is pleased
to announce it has partnered with IT Risk Managers,
Inc. of Okemos, Michigan, to provide a new comprehensive
insurance program designed specifically for auctioneers.
According to Sandra Brittingham, CAI, PAA President,
"The PAA and IT Risk Managers, Inc. are collaborating
together to offer an auctioneer-specific insurance
program that meets the needs of the professional
auctioneer and the auction industry."
"After extensive research, we found that the
insurance coverage carried by most auctioneers had
gaps in leaving the auctioneers exposed or inadequately
insured," according to Larry Harb, President
of IT Risk Managers, Inc. "This is due primarily
to the lack of knowledge as to what coverage is
specifically needed by an auctioneer to cover the
risks and exposures unique to the auction industry."
Our new program focuses on three primary areas of
coverage. The first is General Liability, the more
traditional slip-and-fall coverage. The second is
a Professional Liability endorsement. This provides
the auctioneer with the needed errors and omissions
coverage and finally a Care, Custody and Control
endorsement. This coverage provides for items held
but not owned by the insured. In addition, if an
auctioneer already has general liability coverage,
our new program will be in excess of their existing
coverage.
"The auction industry has grown significantly
over the past few years, and auctioneers need to
be protected with their own class of insurance,"
observed Mr. Harb. "The new program meets the
needs of the typical auctioneer better than traditional
insurance offered by most Main Street insurance
agencies."
Where is the Auctioneers' Coverage?
Without
this new policy, it comes out of auctioneers' pockets.
"Many auctioneers can't afford to self-insure
this type of risk," John Ensminger, PAA Member
Benefits Chair, commented. "The Michigan State
Auctioneers Association's Executive Director and
Product Committee have worked for over two years
with IT Risk Managers to create this program specifically
for state auctioneer associations. This is exactly
what the auction industry needed."
